Video games ease sick kids', parents' painBy Lisa Baertlein

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - When 11-year-old Gus Luna was able to play one of his favorite video games while recovering from exploratory brain cancer surgery in intensive care, his mother breathed a big sigh of relief.

"It was brain surgery... it was so scary. That made me feel like things seemed OK," said Marcela Luna, whose son has been undergoing chemotherapy since last year, when surgeons were unable to remove his tumor.

Gus, an all-star soccer player and tae kwon do green belt, was president of his fifth-grade class before falling ill. Now being home schooled, he cannot imagine getting through his treatments without video games: "It would be really hard without this ... You never know what's going to happen next."

Games let him focus on something other than the illness, doctors and hospital visits that dominate his life. Gus is being treated at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, which is among 1,000 hospitals worldwide with video game Fun Centers that roll from bed to bed, just like regular hospital equipment.

"You're like a regular kid," he said. "You forget about needles, you forget about what's all around you."

NOT JUST KIDS STUFF
Over the last decade, researchers around the world have done hundreds of studies probing the value of video games and other forms of virtual reality to help children, and their parents, cope with medical-related anxiety and pain.

Results have been mostly positive and continue rolling in. The University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine earlier this year published details from a study of 20 children having an intravenous line inserted.

Half of them underwent the procedure while playing "Street Luge," a fully-immersive virtual reality game in which players control characters who race downhill while reclining on a big skateboard. The children wore a helmet fitted with headphones and glasses that delivered game sounds and images. They also used a rumbling joystick.

Children who did not play the game reported a four-fold increase in pain intensity from the procedure, while those who used virtual reality distraction reported no change in pain intensity.
The University of South Australia's Center of Allied Health Evidence did a study of children with serious burn injuries and found "strong evidence" supporting the use of virtual reality-based games in pain management.

In similar fashion, doctors at Israel's Chaim Sheba Medical Center used Sony Corp.'s PlayStation II EyeToy -- a camera that connects to a video game console allowing users to see themselves on TV -- as a rehabilitation tool for patients with severe burns. In a published article they said it proved to be an efficient and affordable alternative.

GAMING FOR GOOD
Nintendo Co. Ltd. executive Don James designed the current Fun Center and said the company will start shipping units that include its new Wii video game console in mid-2007. The Japanese game giant sponsors more than 3,500 of the 5,000-plus Fun Centers in hospitals through a program created and run by Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation, whose aim is to combat the isolation and fear experienced by hospitalized kids.

A donation of $3,250 covers a current-generation Fun Center with a GameCube console, flat-screen monitor and DVD player, as well as its lifetime upkeep, a Starlight spokeswoman said.
Jeffrey Gold, program psychologist for the pediatric pain management clinic at USC-affiliated Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, was on the team that did the university's virtual reality pain study and continues to research the subject.

Hospitalized children are in a foreign environment with none of the familiar comforts of home, he said. "There is no normalcy. When you roll in a video game, there is some normalcy," Gold said.
Parents also benefit, he added. "If you have children and you see them in distress, then you're in distress. If they're more calm, you're more calm."

That's something all moms -- from Marcela Luna to movie star and author Jamie Lee Curtis, a Starlight proponent -- know first-hand. Five years ago, Curtis' son was hospitalized with a ruptured spleen and nurses wheeled in a Fun Center.

"It made him forget he was in the hospital ... It changed our experience," she said.

Oh great! I love constructive post on my comment box!

Since these are personal comments, I don't think we should or should not agree with one another. Most important is the point is being shared.

My personal experience is that gaming taught me a lot of things. Take for example, StarCraft. Playing the scenario will be as good as reading a story book (more interactive). You learn something as good as reading a book.

There are some people who are good at reading books. There are some people who don't. Vice-versa, there are some who play games and some don't. Game has just open up another learning platform for "the other" group.

Rationing Pots is one good example brought up. It is another method of putting a child into a real jungle for survival training. You may learn rationing in school but this is where you practice and apply your skills. Implementation is far more important than theory. Just like getting into a school science lab after a lesson on theory.

It may not be learning something VERY IMPORTANT but every micro learning makes a better person.

Time passes every second and brain works as you take each breath. You can choose to learn something or you can choose to stall.

Do you know how long can you hold your breath? You never need to know until someone tie and throw you into the sea. If the day does come, every micro skill counts. It would be a matter of live and death.

AHi all, it's Sunday! Since I have some free time today, I will simply pick something general to talk about just to pass our time ^ ^

In these days, there are sooo many games! How did you choose what to play? Everyone might have different items on their checklist. For eg. Superb graphics, touching stories, etc. To keep it short, these are some of my checklist which might be worth your consideration when picking the next game:

1. Does it train and enhance my skill?

Let's take Audition for example. The game requires you to complete a set of directional arrows within a specific time frame (from slow to fast as you progress). This trains you to complete a simple task, quickly. This will eventually make you a person who will pick-up challengers and complete them quickly. It also helps to train your recognition skills linking from memory to hands.

2. Beyond the game, is there a real life element to it?

Beside playing a game, what other purpose does the game possess? In Pangya, it teaches real golfing terms, techniques, physics and regulations. Try watching the next Tiger wood game on ESPN. You will now be able to tell and feel how hard it is to gain that kinda accuracy!

3. Does the game bring value to real life?

In MapleStory, we make more friends. We also know how kind or cruel can human be. It is a platform where you can experience the reality without losing something tengible.

Partying Chaos

It was a busy week! We saw AsiaSoft team preparing for the launch of Audition, with Mark of AuditionSEA and the Audition Party, many other events was also in the action. One of which is the Open Beta of Kong Kong, the patch from developer somehow did not work for many (successfully patched but still cannot run, including myself!).

Pangya Cashshop had a little hip-cup but was resolved quickly. AsiaSoft Passport was kinda down for 12 hours. Worst was Audition going commercialisation, the game went down for almost 60 hours!

Nonetheless, the game is now up (with new songs, new items and A-Cash usable of cos!), the party was GREAT, with MiLuBing, illers, Teresa and a nice host, everyone went home with a smile. If not for the event, at least for the exclusive cap and goodie bag ^ ^

MapleSEA Icy Challenge

MapleSEA Icy Challenge will be held at PCbunk (Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station).
There will be the GM Event Snowball and sale of Maplestory Prepaid Cards.

For those who are wondering, what GM Event (Snowball) is all about...

Snowball consists of two teams, Maple Team and Story Team.

The two teams duke it out to see which team can roll the snowball further in a limited time.

If the game cannot be decided within the time period, the team that rolled the snowball further wins.

There is a snowball on one end and a snowman at the other end.

If the snowman's HP drop to 0 the other team will not be able to hit the snowball for a short period of time!

So team work and strategy is very important!!!

I heard that there are Yetis trapped somewhere at the event as well...Hope I'll be one of those lucky few to "rescue" one of those plushies home with me ^^

Alright...time to go and find my winter clothings for tomorrow...Brrr >.<

Free Level vs 2x Exp

The admin had made their clear clarification to the moderators that Wizet had made the decision to move from free level to 2x exp (with 2x drop rates and special drops) instead for the benefits of the low and mid level players. With 2x exp, these players will be able to level a few "levels" instead of just one. The Admin had also posted a Poll and generally, 2x exp was more popular. Results have should that Mod's idea of 1 level could be less ideally than 2x exp and therefore agrees that 2x exp could be a better reward to our supporters.

The good news is, if you have a 2x exp card (cash item), it will be stackable during the 2x exp birthday rewards (meaning 4x!). Most likely, it's stackable with your HS! High-level maplers, you still get your advantage...

I will like to apologise for the confusion made as the plan was change by the people who made the decision.

The fastest way to level from rookie to beginner:

1. Complete the tutorial to receive a caddie (Paps).

2. Play in rookie only channel.

3. Play Versus mode to gain more EXP.

4. Keeping playing "Blue Lagoon" till you can start getting Eagle.

5. During each match, learn from others by pressing "0" (zero) to watch their angle. Learn from those Rookie A or B that are going to be beginner.

6. Watch out for the power bar (in split second) when the player teeing off. The bar could show that the player might have missed or the strength of the power used.

7. Try the same shot if they did well.

8. To earn more EXP, play in TEAM mode. Find someone you know and play in TEAM to level fastest!

(Please share if you have more tips. I am not a PangYa pro yet so kindly correct me if I am wrong ^ ^. )

Many players have misconception of the moderators role. So, let me clarify our role:

We moderators are the chosen from the MapleSEA forum community. Most of us are players like you! We participate in forum and also plays the game like common players. We are chosen to help out in the forum community. We hope to archieve our goals by making the forum a cleaner and better place for Maplers to get together. ^^

We are not paid to be a moderators. However, we are given extra access to the forum to help moderate. We have the opportunity to meet the Admin or call their contact in case of urgent cases. We gather player's ideas and comments and feedback to the Admin.Our task as a moderator is not easy. You must handle difficult forumers and spammers. We have to constantly update ourselves with late breaking information in order to reply to forumers. It is not as easy as it seems. Please do not make our job difficult :(

Between Wizet and AsiaSoft

What are the differences between AsiaSoft & Wizet?

Many questions were being posted on the forum regarding the role between AsiaSoft and Wizet. Therefore, I would like to shed some light into this question based on my personal understandings:

Regarding Wizet:

- Wizet is the developer of MapleStory.

- Wizet is the one in charge of patching the game. Since they develop the game, all new patches, new items, new quests and new maps are made by them.

Regarding AsiaSoft:

- AsiaSoft is a Publisher. They are the one who brings MapleStory to both Singapore and Malaysia. They do not create the game.

- AsiaSoft is only in charge of marketing the game. They are the people who make sure that there are people playing the game. They are also in-charge of the GM events that many may have experienced.

In short, Wizet is the company that brings patches to the game while AsiaSoft sole purpose is to only promote the game: MapleStory and make MapleStory a pleasant place to play in.

Regarding A-Cash:

When player buy A-Cash to purchase cash items, the money that are spent on cash shop will be paid to the dealers like Comics Connection and 7-Eleven, Servers, Bandwidth, Marketing of MapleStory like magazines advertisments and posters and Human Resource like the Admin. The remaining money will then be split between AsiaSoft and Wizet.

In the meantime, we will not know if there will be any "remaining ones"... =)

Many readers knows that I upate my Blog late at night reason being I am too busy. I don't even have time to level my own characters T.T

After a long pause, I planned to update this blog last night but was intrrupted by someone who curse in the forum. I was sad and mad and for the first time and engage onto a confrontation (and I know he is reading this post). So the delay of updates... Anyway, these are some:

1. monsterina and PSLE, I've included both of you into my link.

2. The GM did a late night Alpha Auction. Will try to get the transcript.

3. The GM hosted Monster Attack II on Bootes. Will try to do the same, get the transcript.

4. For the pass few days, I've helped Admin re-established the forum. We will try to keep the post count for each section below 5,000 for optimum performance.

5. I've setup Gunbound forum on forum.asiasoft.net. The existing one in yata101.com will be remove.

6. Some hackers might not know this... if found hacking; the AsiaSoft Passport will be suspended for verification, which means that all account in the passport cannot be access. To lift the passport, visit the next AsiaSoft's event.

7. Players who have PIN problem, visit AsiaSoft next event.

Scavenger Hunt (Alpha), 28th August, EST 0400HRS (+8GMT):

Explanation: In order to help the newbie, “Tiatha” the Legendary Scavenger is searching for items. He seeks assistance from adventurers. Participants who dare the quest will search, consolidate and trade the item with “Tiatha”. You have to use the “/find Tiatha” command to locate Tiatha. In return, the fortune-hunter will be rewarded. Prizes and number of winner(s) will be announced prior revealing the quest. Some quest will have level restrictions.

- Prepare a piece of paper and a pen to take down notes. -

Tiatha: “To make my delicious Snailsroom Soup, I need the following items… “

Tiatha: “I need 100 Blue Snail Shells, 100 Orange Mushroom Caps, 100 Mushroom Spores and 10 Green Mushroom Tops. The first two adventurers (level 29 and below) who trade me will be rewarded with a Black Crystal (Refined) each.”

Tiatha: “Woot ~, that was fast. One more to go…”

Chief Stan : "Oh no! Is Alex going to be safe? Maplers, would you help me protect Alex too?"

GM Tespia : "It is not known why the monster attacked us. Our spies "Mini the dog" has been planted around Maple Island to eavesdrop on the Monsters. Fortunately, only Crimsons knows how to read English..."

Informants from Ossyria have spotted groups of monsters FLYING their way to Victoria! They are expected to attack somewhere near soon!! Very soon!! The informants were at channels 3 and 5!!

* Flying their way from Ossyria, hinting will Ellinia will be under attacked but players seen flooding to Kerning.. lol *

* Level 1 - 10 monsters spawn randomly at Lith Harbour, Henesys, Kerning and Perion *

The BOSSes had send probe on Channel 3 and 5. They might be appearing soon. Warning, the BOSSes are very cunning monsters!

Letter reads: "Brothers from the Global, please help the Crimsons of MSEA on 24th August! We shall meet and take our revenge! Aquila shall be ours... MUAhahaha"

Peace has been restored to Ellinia... maybe for now... Adventurers, rest and rejuvenate.

NeoWorx Mess

NeoWorx messed up my blog! I was shock when the entire layout of my blog was distorted... What happen is, my free trial with NeoWorx has ended :( and without subscribe, the board will reset to the ugly default (you can't change it). Now I have to pay (*F3 face*). Nonetheless, I think it is worthy.

What is NeoWorx :
On the right side of the navigation, there are two Tagboard. One of them is from NeoWorx name NeoBoard. NeoWorx also provide a counter service name NeoCounter. NeoWorx is the only board and counter that accurately shows the visitor flag.

Hi all, I sincerely appreciate and thank you for your concern. After a day rest, feelin much better now. Only problem is when there are too many problems, I awake during the middle of the night, couldn't get back to sleep and therefore this post from yours truly.

Anyway, got a good news from Admin today!!

1. There will soon be a solution to interim method to assist those who lost their Security PIN! So, for those who lost or forgot their PIN, please make sure you don't lose it the second time ^ ^;;

2. Pacific Internet implemented a new e-mail verification system that rejected AsiaSoft's e-mail for the pass few days (that's why many plaers are unable to receive their verification code). The mailing service has resolved and is working again. PI users who previously encountered problems can try your request again.

3. If you happen to intro MapleStory to a friend, you might encounter that the creation of AsiaSoft Passport and MapleStory Acc was down for the pass few days. The good news is, they back again. The Admin had broadcast to e-mail subscribers who couldn't register but are interested when the service is back.

Ooo... the Admin are really working.

On a recent surge of hackers and scammers, the Admin received many complaints from players. AsiaSoft now adds more GMs to cope with the operation. The Admin will be taking extra steps to suspend these accounts. You will see more accounts being suspended these few months.

For those with multiple AsiaSoft Passport (Multi-AP), the Admin will be clearing up fake accounts. So, please make sure you play on the account only with your National ID!

The good news is, there are more new faces coming into my blog. The bad news is, many come without a purpose and posted questions that has nothing to do with this Blog. Perhaps the objective wasn't clear and I would like to share again on Wai Mod.

Objective one:
This blog is created for my own reading. So,
constructive criticisms are always welcomed...complains are not (quoted by c0rinthian).
I have also gotten feedback that my English is poor, will work on it ^ ^;;

Objective two:
This blog shares my moderating experience. Those hope to be a Mod can absorb something here. Or, those who are already a Mod can feedback via the comment section to share your opinion.

Objective three:
To keep a circle of pro forum players consistantly update with Moderators views and opinions and gather feedback.

So, kindly avoid:
- Asking about updates on the games (If I have the info and allow to disclose, I will do so here or in the forum).
- Asking "how to" etc. about the games (Please do it in the forum as that is the sole purpose).

The color of Fairness

It is not the colour of your skin I'm talking about LOLx.

I was troubled by some comments made in the forum which usually happens after an incident. There were mentioned about "unfairness". So what is the designation (the true colours) of the word?

Fairness or the reverse is perceived differently from individual objective, experience, tolerance and factual.

- Objective:
What hope to be achieved out of an event. If it was accomplished, it’s fair. If it was complete, “unfairness” starts evolve.

- Experience:
The understanding of livelihood learns during the process formulate the true meaning of Objective.

- Tolerance:
The threshold of individual of when to use the word “fair / unfair”.

- Factual:
The truth was always perceived and assumed therefore resulted false information appears real.

These are the good practice shall there be a need to use the adjective:
- Reverse the thinking process. Were all information gathered true or were they assumed? If it was, seek clarification.

- Is it necessary to use the word? Would challenging make a significant? Think of the last incident it was 1. Used by a friend, 2. Used by yourself. (Were they used correctly? Did it really improve that situation?)

- Regroup the thoughts with forgiving experience.

- Review the initial objective of participations. (eg. An athletic participated in Olympic for Sportsmanship or the prize?)

I had a meeting in AsiaSoft’s office this afternoon and tele-conference with the Admin and some other moderators. These are some of the things discuss and finalise:

Change of Security Code:
Currently, there is no valid method to change or reset AsiaSoft Passport Security Pin unless there is an offline event (like the GM event preview) where the Admin can assist you on the spot. The CSO plans to start a mobile customer service centre (a small booth) somewhere in Singapore where it will be convenient for users to visit. Users will be able to reset their PIN once the centre is setup.

Hacking issues:
Password theft is on the rise . They are mainly keylogger cases or compromise of security by revealing password in non-official website or sharing with friends or stranger. If users suspect their password had been compromise, please proceed to change the password in a clean computer and start cleaning or formatting the current PC. If the security pin is lost, fax a copy of the National Identification Card to AsiaSoft office and request the Admin to suspend your account temporary. The Admin will help to verify your status before re-activating your account in order to prevent hackers from changing your details or steal your items.

Bootes:
The Admin reveal that Bootes had minimum increment while Aquila is still growing strongly. Since Aquila had reached its maximum capacity, it is critical to migrate users from Aquila to Bootes. The team then brainstormed with the moderators. After the discussion, all agreed to the following:

1. Early September, 4 full days of continuous GM Event hosted in Bootes!
(It will be spread out from work day to weekend)
2. No promise but the Admin is trying to allow preview of a secret map.
(Map will not be available in Aquila. After the preview, the map will be close.)
3. More channels will be open.
(Proposed Channel 13 - 16)
4. Bootes will always have the first right if whenever there is a special event.

On a personal note, everyone have the same rights and chance to play in Bootes. So it’s pretty fair. In any other MMORPG, players usually have at least one character in every single world. So, spread the words to your friend now!

Had been waiting 10 years for someone to produce this movie ever since I first read the book. When I first heard that they've done it, I've been looking forward for this day to come. Now that I watched, it was somehow... different from my imagination. The story kept it's consistency to the book and the production was decent.

However, I think it might be better if it were to produce by US directors and firmed in AU. If I am allow to suggest improvement, would someone remove the musical please? Never knew Mr Willy was MJ meet Scissors hand. :p (Ratings : *****)

Scheming thieves

This post solely relates to MapleStory. After the recent launch of cash shop item MegaPhone, there were spotting of hack sites in almost every channels. The famous http://www.maplecheater.tk/ was a plot to capture Maple ID and password. It was neither a hack or keylogger. The thieves simply capture users' input of the userID and password from the request and downloaded a keylogger. Some might ask, so why did the stupid thieves use Cash item to broadcast the message? If GM found and ban the account, wouldn't real cash in the account be wasted?

The site exists before the launch of MegaPhone. It had scam a number of players who tried to cheat thinking they could download the hack. Using these UserID and password, the thieves buy MegaPhone on those with Maple cash. They advertise the domain in all channels and as a result, more plaers being scammed. Therefore, the players who advertise may possibly not be the owner. It is likely to be the thieves in-action. This was how the site spread like fire.

The admin suspect, thousand of players had been scammed and the thieves have had all login details of these players. Even after educating these players on the standard procedure on what to do (change their userID and password after removal of keylogger) only a small percentage could had been saved since the persistent keyloggers was not easily remove from the infected system.

Thieves are getting smarter, fortunately they are not hackers yet.

Be as Casual

There are many things in life that leave us with not much choice. We have to study for our future. We have to work to survive. We have to love for a tender touch. Commitment is exhausting but we have no option but to commit to get these done.

To loosen up, we choose what we wanted to do. Doing something without obligation. We therefore choose to play games. Playing games are an enormous form of relaxation to the body and mind. We take pleasure when we gain a virtual item in the game. We meet virtual friends that become real. We create virtual character without blood but filled with tears. We bring virtual to life, to reality.

Without hard and fast rule, the choice is ours. There is absolutely no commitment to play. We choose. We are the casual gamers. Game relaxes our brain… or was it not?

Ever felt tired during school or work? Couldn’t focus on necessity in life? What went wrong? Game could have, or should have unwound the stress but it seems reverse. Diving results, coaches’ reproach, bosses reprimand; all to blame was the invisible virus where jovial doctors prescribe vitamins to kill the imperceptible bug.

Was it human nature that tricked the mind, devoting into a new affection? Indeed. Without hesitation, the mind had volunteered making a sub-conscious decision. The again, repetitive noun “Commitment” resurface. It was in our personality that constructed the strength of will to achieve excellent result, to be the best of the character.

A drunker will never admit drunk. It is when we became hardcore.

Reviewing the choices again, wouldn’t it be wonderful if there is no commitment? What need do we have to level to the top? What is the significance of playing a game? Wouldn’t it be good if we can go into a game for 5 mins or 50 mins at the choice of ours?

Gunbound and MapleStory are crafted for this purpose. Unlike others, no commitment is required . This is why the game have no story to follow. To append, the game is free (another step to "free from commitment"). There are other games that are crafted the same way. World of Warcraft for example, max their level at slightly below 60. You enjoy the game not by levelling, but play casually.

I'm able to relax whenever I play. I do not play a game everyday. Many may be surprise how much time I spent on games. Nonetheless, it was the fun that I enjoy, not the level. I have achieved the objective of playing the game.

Have you recently participated in a forum-game on MapleSEA forum? Never heard of it? It's Q-NAG! You missed great fun! Well, don't be sad because I missed it too... lol. When was the event? Why didn't the Admin inform us?? These are some questions you might ask. If you read my previous post on “Wai Mod : Playing beyond the mainstream fun”, you've got the answer.

Henryik did a great forum-based game. He started it and controls the game smooth and consistent! From the vast responses and fascinating comments from the participants, I am sure Henryik is satisfied with the result. I am certain that this is definitely not started because of what I wrote on the previous blog. The game began on 29th of July. I did not notice the thread when I was writing the article. I found it on 2nd of August! Although this is not “in-game”, by hosting it, I would say Henryik is extremely creative, intuitive and a potential leader.

Doggies, kitties, hamsters, rabbit, I want them all! On second though, taking care of them are daily nightmares. With these creatures crawling around my room, how much time would I have left to help moderate the community, let alone levelling in Bootes or GB_WOC.

A close friend of mine told me, over 3600 doggies were put to sleep by AVA and SPCA in Singapore this year ~>.<~ So think again if you decide to adopt a pet. The good news is, there are ways you can avoid these hassle.

Playing beyond the mainstream fun.

What's in the fun of playing a MMORPG? Levelling many will say. There are many other interesting elements if it's not. Completing a rewarding quest; challenging in a mini-game (game within game), participating GM events, bargaining a trade or chatting & making new friends. These are the juices that pin players back to the keyboard after again and again.

The mainstream funs are the made of MMORPG. While on other screens, the mainstreams are simply not satisfying. These are some talented packets of players that are creative and intuitive, proving mainstream is part of a game and not the whole. Without controlled by the Admin, neither the GM nor the support from the developer, they create new fun to the game!

A simple dash across maps, posting ridiculous questioning receiving humorous replies, guessing a mute player mission, these organisers put in their own chips as prizes! They supply extraordinary fun to the participated players. Not only for those who have won, had it usually become coffee chat "I saw what this hilarious player did yesterday...lol". After all, it is what makes other happy that make ones day.

User-base games are usually closer to the heart of the players. The organisers have the freedom to set up what interest their players. Unlike the GM, they have less chance of getting blame for organising bias event.

Once in a while, things might not go the way it plans to be. It could be the lack of experience putting on some boring shows, but practice makes perfect! Don’t give up! It is always the last mile that makes you different.

Tips for organising such activities:

Choosing the right game - Make sure the game has the right intent. It should not be crafted to gain reward from the participants. Vice-versa, it should not be the “carrot” that lure the players, so reward carefully. The key is fun.

Keep the game simple and easy to understand. Start with a small group of 10. Once the players know how the game was played, expand it if it proven worth. Get the existing player to be volunteers and enlarge the capacity.

Choosing the right players – You don’t need the whole world to join your game. Select only those who sincerely wanted to. You have the right to ignore critics but do consider their feedback.

Being a player, the freedom to choose the type of activities that fit the liking of individual is important. Playing without involving the masses has its advantages. Getting more attention by the organiser and without getting DC by mass computing needs are fascinating game plays.

While choosing the right game, make sure the game is right. Drop game, for example, are some tricks that scammers had crafted. See Wai Mod: “Stop dropping”.

Rewards are how much fun you achieve, monetary is secondary.

Drop game, sounded like a new feature in the game. It’s not. Originated from the west, drop game is a dirty trick that scammers crafted. They dare naïve players drop their items then confiscate the drop through the use of vacuum hack, speed teleport with auto pick-up or a normal walk-over pick. Cry or plead the victim may, these scammers are not one that are soft-hearted. If they do, it would not have begin.

The games are sometime hosted by group. They start by daring each other to play the game by dropping (looking if they were stranger to each other). When innocent player join in, they start dropping better items and waited patiently. When the player drop a rare, they execute the hack. The whole gang usually disconnect or channel hop.

When the gang decide to setup a second trap on the same victim, this adds to the bursting of burning point. They acted concern and blame the scammer who took the item and demand return. The scammer (the one who picked earlier) than request the victim to drop another item to show his/her "trust" or "sincerity" for wanting back the item. Whatever reason it could be, the gang persuaded the victim, acted to be the victim's witness. By dropping the second item, the victim fall into the second trap.

It might not occur as a drop game. The same plot might present itself much simpler. In the presence of a high-level, the scammer drops a rare. Thinking that the player is “celebrating the newly gain item from monster drop” or "showing-off", the high-level drop a rare item to show that he/she had one too. Hack will then execute. The scammer simply leverages on the victim "Self-Motivated" behaviour. The psychological effect of "if you can, I can too".

Game moderator and Administrator remove all items found in the account of the scammers. On the contrary, it is not possible to remove such scammers. Players beware.

Happenings @ TH Media Conference.

Hi, it's 7am and I've not sleep yet. Still in office T.T
This prove how busy I am trying to clear my load of work. But still, I owe everyone a reply so I better take sometime writing this. I'm sorry for keeping all of you waiting. Ok, this are some of the shots at the Thailand Media conference:

1. AsiaSoft Thailand did a wonderful job by organising a MapleStory Fashion show!

2. They hired Channel V's VJ as their Emcee! Picture with Wizet Vice president.

3. AsiaSoft Singapore's Managing Director grace the event. Picture with MapleStory Mascots!

4. Attractive food and cocktail for the guests.

6. Thailand Media presence was stronger than Singapore plus Malaysia.

7. They gave away MapleStory noob T-shirt although not very alike those in the promo-clips. Sorry, no image. But you can tell from those blue and red T-shirts above.

My Monster, My Map.

A KSer (meaning a Kill Stealer) , a term used by a victim on the opponent. Have anyone questioned; would the opponent be called a KSer if the player do not feel victimise?

When players regard the game as theirs, they became defensive and at the same time offensive. "My Monster, My Map" is the 4M. This is where the KS/KSer/KSing conflict begins.

"I suggest you don't touch my Monster"
"Can you change a channel? I was here first...”

Regardless how polite, the player crossed the line of owning rather than playing the game. The root of being overly self-conscious, words like "My or Mine" build tension. Although a KSer appears to be wronged, it was merely a convenient way of the player putting the fault on others.

The word "My/Mine" arise primarily due to desire and laziness (this is blown up but the purpose is to scope in and enlarge the micro).

A common example:

The general desire is to level-up but at the same time, do not want to share the map or monsters. The player is reluctant and indolent to move to another map, channel or world.

On the other hand, it is definitely not etiquette to steal monsters from another player (but it is also not wrong). The fact is, behide the screen of the opponent, it could be a kid or a Mother trying 1st time player on the keyboard.

To avoid such conflict, on the initial engagement, always assume the potential KSer did not do it on purpose. Avoid confrontation. These are some guide that can be helpful:

Assume that the player (a potential KSer) hit the monster accidentally or unintentionally. Pause and hint the player with a F3 emotion if it continues. The hint usually works without a conversational confrontation.
If point 1 doesn’t work, the opponent might not catch the hint. Ignore and move to another area of the map (share the M) if situation allow.
The player might randomly cross the line picking the monster again. The monster belongs to the public, so play as per normal (some call it "KS back").
If the opponent suggests the player to change a map instead, giving whatsoever reason (eg. "Your level is too low for these monster" etc.), make a consideration. Think twice before deciding to stay. To stay on, ignore replying. Mute is the best way to avoid confrontation.
If the opponent is too strong, change a map / channel or world. If it's dealing against the King (Mushmon or Balrog), play as per norm.
If the opponent follows the player everywhere (within the same map or even if channel have been change), this is when the potential KSer become a real KSing. This probably happen due to the cause and effect (meaning the opponent dislike something about the player). Anyway, the opponent could had a bad day at work. There are three options (choose one all use all):

Keeping mute throughout, KS back with F2 pressed on random. F2 provoke and challenge the opponent mentally. Move around the map to waste each other time (it could take at least 10mins to hours). Having the first hit gain advantage. Nevertheless, avoid this if on single floor map, if the opponent can move faster (eg. equip with teleport, haste or better shoe) or if opponent prove the player is overly weak.
Logout, change a char / world or take a break.
The opponent is likely ignorant. Ask "Have you heard of the 4M theorem?". Refer him/her to this blog. This will educate the KSer how others feel. The KSer learn learn something new about playing MMORPG and respect other players in return.

It's easy to say "I've tried but it doesn't work". Practice makes perfect.

Null Defame, for reason no.

"I got defame while afk! There are more and more unreasonable people!"

I bet you've seen such comments if you played MapleStory. Definitely not only within MapleSEA community. Such comments can be spotted in KMS, JMS, GMS, CMS or TMS too, perhaps only different ways of putting it across.

There is no reason why you got defame by someone you don't know; *pause* or perhaps there is? I came across two threads this morning and realise something interesting between the two. I conclude they are somehow linked.

Mapler A in his D&D thread:
"This guy mass defame me because I don't want to party him..."
Mapler B in his Genreal Discussion thread:
"I got defame for no reason while I was AFK!"

So how are both thread linked? Read on:

"I took revenge by training a few more characters and defame him back when I once found him AFK in town... "

Not saying this represents to all null defame cases, I conclue that such possibility are on the high side. Taking revenging could also happen to those accident KSer, legal or intentional pick-ups or a simple reply of wtf while in conversion. It need not be within the same day. It could happen even a month later.

The player might not have good momories but a pencil always does.

So, next time if your friend tells you a familiar story, ask him
"Have you forgotten"?

Okay, finally the second day arrived (although only couple of hours had passed since the first post). This is sooo exciting ~ I'll update this bloggy as often as I could.

To begin with, the reason I created this Blog is to get to know more about myself. Huh? Confuse? What am I talking about??? LOLx. Things are really funny. The more you wrote, the more you get to understand about yourself. It's true. Especially after receiving comments from others.

Anyway, I suppose many would assume "you already know yourself" more than anybody would, just like myself, right now! I already know myself and I couldn't comment further. So, why not tell me what I could possibly tell more about myself to help me know myself ^ ^;;
